Karl Marx - The Victory of the Proletariat and the Fall of the Bourgeoi
Karl Marx - The Victory of the Proletariat and the Fall of the Bourgeoisie In the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx composes of the low class common laborers very nearly unrest because of the staggering abuse executed by the bourgeoisie. Marx spreads out an arrangement of steps, which exhibit the happening to the unrest, an upheaval caused significantly by the activities of the bourgeoisie. As the bourgeoisie continually structure better approaches to alter creation, they perpetually advance toward an outcome wherein the average workers finds its mistreatment and goes to the main methods for change conceivable, a total upset. Marx initially examines the need for the bourgeoisie to change instruments of creation, an activity vital to serve their own benefit. The proprietors, who unremittingly ââ¬Å"resolve individual worth into trade value,â⬠(p. 828) endeavor to determine new types of creation to limit the ââ¬Å"callous ââ¬Ëcash paymentââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ owed to their laborers so as to amplify the excess of creation. This eventually prompts an incredible disassociation between the workers and their item. In Alienated Labor, Marx portrays the laborer as ââ¬Å"poorer the more riches he delivers, the more his creation increments in influence and extent,â⬠(p. 791). Since the bourgeoisie without a doubt wish to amplify the riches delivered by the worker, their activities definitely lead to the underestimation of the common laborers. Scanning for less expensive, increasingly viable methods for creation, the non-laborers track down crude material from remote zones, develop new advances for creation , and for the most part separate specialists from their own manifestations. In these manners, the bourgeoisie irrefutably change the relations of creation. As Marx said in Alien... .... They have uncovered the universe of treachery to the low class, who will blast to shreds the states of the occasions in another upheaval that will stop the common. In the advanced mechanical period of Karl Marx, the bourgeoisie unendingly reform the instruments of creation, adjusting relations of creation, and above all, the relationship of people to the remainder of society. In this upsetting, the bourgeoisie produce more prominent surpluses, yet additionally their own undertakers, distancing the class that will revolt to recover their individual ways of life as people. For Marx, this change requires just time, and as the working class understand the shameful acts of their situations in the public eye, they will start to perceive the need for upheaval. The triumph of the working class and the fall of the bourgeoisie are similarly inescapable.

If an individual does not engage in the addictive behavior at all, either indefinitely or for a short period of time, that person is said to be abstinent or abstaining, for example, He was abstinent from alcohol for 6 months. Abstinence can also be a goal, for example, She intends to abstain from sexual activity until she is married, or a philosophy, for example, AA is an abstinence-based approach to recovery from alcoholism. Controversy About Abstinence Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was the first program focused specifically on treating addiction, and complete abstinence from alcohol was the cornerstone of the approach. Therefore, abstinence has a long history of being an entrenched concept required for recovery. Those who developed the AA 12 step program genuinely believed that alcoholism was a disease people were born with, not that it develops in response to exposure to alcohol, and therefore, that any drinking was a complete failure on the part of the alcoholic. Abstinence is a rigid, all-or-nothing approach, so much so, that it is considered by some factions of the addictions field to be unworkable for many people who want to overcome addictive behavior. Some experts also believe that abstinence is unnecessary, and some people are able to go from drinking excessively to drinking in moderation. This has set up a dichotomy between approaches to treatment that require abstinence, and those that do not. People working in the field, and people who seek help with addictive behaviors, are often pressured to take sides, and state whether they believe in abstinence or harm reduction as if the approaches are mutually exclusive. For example, 12-step programs require abstinence, whereas motivational interviewing does not. Abstinence from alcohol involves completely avoiding intake of any alcohol and contrasts with controlled drinking that might help an alcohol addict to become a moderate and non-problematic drinker. This also means that for someone to overcome a problem with drinking too much, they have to go through alcohol withdrawal, which can range from unpleasant to life-threatening. In contrast, a harm reduction approach allows people to gradually reduce the number of drinks they consume each day, without requiring the withdrawal syndrome. Create New Habits With the Right Addiction Recovery Program Similarly, methadone maintenance treatment may or may not require abstinence from heroin or other opiate drugs, but as an opiate drug itself, people on methadone are often perceived not to be abstinent, and may, therefore find themselves excluded from abstinence-based programs. This can be very frustrating for people who have tried multiple times to withdraw from heroin but have relapsed. These are the people most likely to be stabilized on methadone prior to going into psychological treatment. Some professionals have a more balanced and evidence-informed approach to treatment. Harm reduction approaches may be most effective for many people, while complete abstinence may be the best solution for others. For those whose health has been severely compromised through alcohol and drug use, abstinence may be advisable, as further exposure to alcohol or drugs could be life-threatening, or abstinence may half progression of a condition that may become life-threatening if the person consumes alcohol or drugs. In these circumstances, the decision to become abstinent is individual and evidence-based, not a dogmatic one-size-fits-all philosophy. Why Early Abstinence Can Be the Hardest Stage of Recovery Problems With Abstinence From Normal Behaviors With the growing recognition of behavioral addictions, abstinence-based approaches are increasingly seen as unworkable. For example, everyone needs to eat, so abstinence from food is not possibleâ"although some who are particularly attached to abstinence-based approaches hold that certain foods should be completely avoided. Exercise addiction, sex addiction, and shopping addiction are very difficult to treat with abstinence-based approaches. However, even among advocates of moderation and controlled approaches, it is acknowledged that abstinence has its place for certain people who are prone to relapse, for whom any addictive behavior would be harmful, or for certain stages in the process of recovery. Complete Abstinence May Be Necessary Some addictive behaviors, such as sexually abusive behavior or the use of inhalants, are so harmful that controlled behavior is not possible or advisable under any circumstances, and complete abstinence is necessary. Women s Rights And Responsibilities - 1175 Words
In order to exercise legal rights and responsibilities, one must be a legal person. However, the legal person cannot be easily defined especially when one must consider the feminine gender. Although it is a fact that women are people with the same legal rights and responsibilities as men, several aspects of what is understood to be legal personhood conflicts with the unique characteristics of the female gender such as pregnancy. This reflects the deeply seated tradition of patriarchy within the law that is the largest concern of liberal feminists. It is not to be said that the law has remained unchanged over the course of history but rather that it has changed in a way that only includes women as ââ¬Ëmenââ¬â¢ and not as women. This is mostlyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In order to be considered a legal person, there are physical and conceptual requirements. It cannot be denied that there has been significant progression of the recognition of women as legal persons throughout the last century. Previous to the changes in the early 20th Century, women were purposely excluded from the concept of a legal person due to assumptions of their feminine disposition, which is often described as temperamental, and their publicly perceived lack of capacity for

Killing and non-killing religions Essay Introduction: In the current times, the universe is vulnerable to terror onslaughts. Some of these terrorist act activities are ever associated with utmost spiritual organisations. Take for case, the ISIS, a panic organisation runing in Iraq and Syria ( Armstrong, 2014 ) . This panic group justifies the violent death of non-Muslims on faith. They wrongly believe that the Quran gives them authorization to kill and maim anyone who is non practising Islam. This paper seeks to explicate the construct of killing and non-killing faiths. It farther seeks to place, which of these is associated with modern twenty-four hours terrorist act. This is a term that seeks to talk against force, and it promotes a peaceable co-existence. Non-Killing can be used to mention to a spiritual belief that does non recommend for force. Examples of such faiths include Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, etc ( Docker, 2008 ) . These are regarded as non-killing faiths, because their instructions advocator against force. Take for case in Christianity, the bible Teachs that if a individual hits you on one cheek, so give him another cheek to hit. This means that a Christian should non take any retaliatory steps, such as paying force with force ( Docker, 2008 ) . Killing faiths on the other manus advocator for the riddance of anybody who goes against its bid. An illustration includes a faith that supports the slaying or violent death of people, who do non impute to its values ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . Controversy exists on whether Islam is an illustration of a killing faith or non. This is because there have been different readings of the instructions of Islam. One reading is of the demand to kill anybody who does non pattern Islam. Other manus, other Islamic bookmans argue that this is non right. This is because Islam seeks to encompass other faiths ( Docker, 2008 ) . However, this is an issue of argument. In a nutshell, while most Muslims position faith and morality as a agency of accomplishing peace, few of them see violence as a agency of accomplishing it. The group position jihadists as an aberrance of Islam that offers little more than subjugation, spiritual constabulary, veiled adult females, and disclaimer of modern scientific discipline. Differences Christians ( Nonkilling Religion ) believe that God sent Christ to rectify the divergences of the Jews. Muslims on another manus trust that God sent Prophet Mohammed, his concluding prophesier, to rectify the divergences of the Christians. They believe that Christianity is non a true representation of the instructions of God ( Docker, 2008 ) . For illustration, the two depart on the usage of force to distribute their faith. For case, one of the instructions of Christianity is that he who lives by the blade, will besides decease by the blade. This is a disapprobation of force, and it is seeking to advance a peaceable co-existence amongst one another. The Quran Teachs that anyone who tries to go forth the faith should be punished. By looking at these facts, it is possible to denote that Christianity and Islam are two really different faiths, and they propagate different values and beliefs. Buddhism and Hinduism are other non-killing faiths ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . These faiths believe in a peaceable co-existence amongst one another. Furthermore, Buddhism believes that to accomplish ultimate peace, there is a demand of an person to invariably chew over. Hinduism believes in the being of many Gods, and goddesses. On this fact, this faith embraces other faiths, and their beliefs. This is unacceptable in Islam. Islam does non digest any other faith, and they believe that no God exists, apart from their God, who is called Allah. It is because of this fact that Islamic extremists are willing to kill, for Allah ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . The violent advocation of Islamic beliefs is referred to as Jihad. Jihad refers to an action aimed at exercising attempt for intents of accomplishing a coveted result. Muslims usually fight Jihad on two degrees. The first degree, is the war against Satanic accusals, poorness, and diseases ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . The 2nd Jihad is fought against any individual who is viewed as traveling against the rules and philosophies of Islam. Non-killing faiths do non back up any type of force, nor do they hold any violent political orientations, such as jehad. Islam stresses that anyone who does non change over to Islam, should be killed, or enslaved. The other non-killing faiths do non hold these commissariats ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . For them, those who do non hold with their tenets are neer slayed or killed. In this position, we can appreciate the fact that these two faiths do contrast in immense stairss. While the former propagates for killing the Rebels or doing them slaves, the latter focal points on tolerance and peace. They do these based on Koran A ; apos ; s Allah philosophies. In add-on, in instance a Muslim brother gets into the manner of slaying the non-Muslims, Islam permits that such an person is slain. They can travel into the degrees of leveling a vicinity to complete off heathen ( Pallmeyer, 2003 ) . In this sense, Islam regards these types of violent deaths as piousness, and it sees nil incorrect with it. For illustration, the word Boko Haram means that Western Education is iniquitous. This is a spiritual extremist group that is found in Northern Nigeria and it advocates for the Islamization of Nigeria. In the chase of their end, they burned schools, kidnaped 100s of kids, and left causalities totaling in 1000s. Their suspected links with the al-Qaida in the Maghreb and al-Shabaab in Somalia has made Boko Haram a existent threat in the eyes of U.S national security. The other non-killing faiths calls for loving your neighbours as you love you. So the impression of killing to derive something is seen as immorality in these signifiers of faiths. In comparing to Christianity, Islam does non offer a chapter about love, 1 Corinthians 13.There exist no fable of Good Samaritan ( Docker, 2008 ) . The call to personal sanctity doesn A ; apos ; Ts exist wholly. There is no hope for personal redemption by manner of impeccant forfeit merely as Jesus did upon Calvary. The hope of ageless cloud nine in holy Eden is non-existent ( Ellens, 2004 ) . The forfeit of puting down the life of one individual is non present in Islam. Alternatively, it is killing others that will allow you derive infinity ( Docker, 2008 ) . The love for a neighbour is absent in entirety among the killing faiths. This is seen amongst the Boko Haram activists. This people kill, with the statement that they are recommending for the acceptance of Islamic rules. Prophet Mohammed was a political leader, and the Koran had much to state about how to form a well-run society in a mode that promotes peace and justness. The two make it true by stating that, modern twenty-four hours Muslims find it really absurd to divide faith from Government. It begs the inquiry, why would human jurisprudence be above the jurisprudence of God. It is on this baseline that we find so many extremists lifting up to counter authorities forces in all mode of wicked bloodshed schemes ( Docker, 2008 ) . They do non believe about who they might be seting in danger, but their chief focal point is selfishness. In other universe faiths, the contrary is really apparent, Killing is non allowed and is regarded really evil. Such Acts of the Apostless attract penalties runing from ageless disapprobation and anguish. In these faiths, there is the separation of faith and authorities constructions ( Docker, 2008 ) . The holy book of Muslims is the Koran. It is a digest of God A ; apos ; s Torahs which were revealed to Mohammed.. Mohammed is respected by most Muslims as a prophesier of God and non as an extension of God. Jesus in His plants here on Earth claimed to be God. Mohammed was a mortal appointed by God to proclaim the message of peace and enlightenment and in this sense ; he had no supernatural powers ( Ellens, 2004 ) . To Christianity, it is contrary to these. Jesus in his ministry among the Jews did many miracles that culminated into really many people following His philosophy. This includes raising the dead, mending the ill, etc. For Him, many people believed in ageless cloud nine in holy Eden because He was an extension of God Himself. Modern Day Terrorism Modern twenty-four hours terrorist act is profoundly associated with killing faiths. Take for illustration, Islam. Most terrorist act groups that emerge, usually associate themselves with Islam. An illustration is Al-Qaeda, whose leaders called for Jihad, against the Americans and the Israeli involvements ( Ellens, 2004 ) . This is because they believed that America and Israel were working against the involvements of Islam. The Quran encourages Muslims to take prisoners during cases of war ( Armstrong, 2014 ) . This can merely go on when a jehad is declared. This is the ground why most panic groups usually cite a Jihad, when engaged in terrorist act activities. It might be true theoretically, but modern twenty-four hours terrorist act is apparent on the poetries from Koran like the one above. A batch of accents are on the jehad as agencies of seeing the fantastic life in front of us. In this respect, extremists like the al-Qaeda, al-Shabab and the Boko Haram of Nigeria take it upon themselves to command authoritiess by either commandeering planes, kids or merely killing utilizing bombs ( Armstrong, 2014 ) . What matters to them is exercising fright and anxiousness among guiltless citizens at the disbursal of their selfish enterprises. There is a really strong association between modern twenty-four hours terrorist act and religion. These words are good depicted in the barbarous violent death of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo by a recent Muslim convert called Michael Zeharf-Bibeau. In his entry, he states that it really absurd for a Muslim convert to travel on a shooting fling in the Canadian parliament ( Docker, 2008 ) . In every bit much as it is seeable that the faith has something to make with behaviour, other factors besides can lend. For case, disregard on upbringing, political orientation, mental jobs and even condemnable yesteryear and drug dependence. But of the declared grounds faith has the strongest relation with what Bibeau did in Canada ( Docker, 2008 ) . The precipitation of modern twenty-four hours terrorist act revival of armed and extremist jihadi motions are two in nature.First is the radical ideals and political orientation of the 1979 Persian revolution and secondly, the practical application of jehad against the Soviet Union A ; apos ; s business of Afghanistan. Decision Religious terrorist act is the political insurgence by members of a certain group of doctrinal religion in seeking to debar the effects of the stated political system. In this sense, anything that consequences from such an agreement is viewed as a immense approval to the people contending for that class. Modern twenty-four hours terrorist act is seeable by many groups of the Islamic religion who have a baseline of bloodletting. The recent events in the United States on September 11, 2001 showed the lengths at which these extremists can widen to. The modern twenty-four hours authorities or political units should endeavour to make out to the grudges aired out by political extremists. On a spiritual graduated table, it is imperative for the provinces to seek out to counter the effects of spiritual extremist. The killing faith propagates for modern twenty-four hours highjacking of planes and kids, like the Nigerian Boko Haram and the al-Qaeda non burying the al-Shabaab in contemporary So malia. In this entry it is practical cognition to denote killing faiths with modern terrorist act. Mentions: Armstrong, K. ( 2014 ) .William claude dukenfields of blood faith and the history of force. Hess Law Essays - Commodity Chemicals, Chlorides, Enthalpy
Hess Law Essays - Commodity Chemicals, Chlorides, Enthalpy Hess Law Hess Law:Work to be done:Find enthalpy change by measuring temperature change of a reaction. Chemicals and apparatus: Thermometer Scale Isolator NaOH, solid NaOH, 0.50M solution Acetic acid, 0.50M and 0.25M Lab: Reaction 1) The temperature of 200ml water that I poured into the isolator was 23.0C. To that I added 1.97g solid NaOH and let the reaction take place. After a while I measured the temperature to 24.9C rT = 1.9C. The number of mole NaOH is 1.97 / 40 = 0.049 mol. Reaction 2) In this experiment I used 100ml 0.50M acetic acid, and to that I added 100ml 0.50M liquid NaOH. The temperature of the acetic acid was 23C and the temperature of the NaOH was 22C. So the average, and the number I use will be 22.5C. After the reaction the temperature of the solution was 25C, so rT = 2.5C. The number of mole NaOH is 0.50 * .100 = 0.050 mol. Reaction 3) In the third reaction I used 200ml 0.25M acetic acid with a temperature of 22.5C, that I added to 2.00g NaOH. The temperature after the reaction was 27C, so rT = 4.5C. And the number of mole NaOH in the reaction was 2.00 / 40 = 0.05 mol. The same amount NaOH has been used in all three reactions, and the same amount of liquid also, 200ml. In reaction two and three is also the amount acetic acid the same.I can now calculate the enthalpy changes in each case: H = c m T, and since the same mass has been used, and since I can use the same c in all three cases H = 0.84 T (c = 4.2, m = 0.200g) rH1 = 1.596 rH2 = 2.1 rH3 = 3.78 According to Hess Law you should be able to calculate the enthalpy change for a reaction which is the sum of two (or more) reactions with known enthalpy change, so:NaOH(s) NaOH(aq) (1) NaOH(aq) + HCl NaCl + H2O (2) NaOH(s) + HCl NaCl + H2O (3) (3) - (2) = (1) and we can also see that rH3 - rH2 rH1

Edwin Howard Armstrong, Inventor of FM Radio
Edwin Howard Armstrong, Inventor of FM Radio Edwin Howard Armstrong (December 18, 1890ââ¬âFebruary 1, 1954) was an American inventor and one of the great engineers of the 20th century. He is best known for developing the technology for FM (frequency modulation) radio. Armstrong won numerous patents for his inventions and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1980. Fast Facts: Edwin Howard Armstrong Known For: Armstrong was an accomplished inventor who developed the technology for FM radio.Born: December 18, 1890 in New York, New YorkParents: John and Emily ArmstrongDied: February 1, 1954 in New York, New YorkEducation: Columbia UniversityAwards and Honors: National Inventors Hall of Fame, Institute of Radio Engineers Medal of Honor, French Legion of Honor, Franklin MedalSpouse: Marion MacInnis (m.à 1922-1954) Early Life Armstrong was born in New York City on December 18, 1890, the son of John and Emily Armstrong. His father was an employee of Oxford University Press, while his mother was deeply involved in the Presbyterian Church. When he was still very young Armstrong became afflicted with St. Vitus Dance- a muscular disorder- which forced him to be home-schooled for two years. Education Armstrong was only 11 years old when Guglielmo Marconi made the first trans-Atlantic radio transmission. Enthralled, the young Armstrong began studying radio and building homemade wireless equipment, including a 125-foot antenna in his parents backyard. His interest in science and technology took Armstrong to Columbia University, where he studied at the schools Hartley Laboratories and made a strong impression on several of his professors. He finished college in 1913 with a degree in electrical engineering. Regenerative Circuit The same year he graduated, Armstrong invented the regenerative or feedback circuit. Regeneration amplification worked by feeding a received radio signal through a radio tube 20,000 times per second, increasing the power of the received radio signal and allowing radio broadcasts to have a greater range. In 1914, Armstrong was awarded a patent for this invention. His success, however, was short-lived; the following year another inventor, Lee de Forest, filed several applications for competing patents. De Forest believed that he had developed the regenerative circuit first, as did several other inventors who became involved in the legal dispute that lasted many years. Although an initial case was resolved in Armstrongs favor, a later decision ruled that De Forest was the true inventor of the regenerative circuit. This was Armstrongs first experience with the legal system that would later cause him so much turmoil. FM Radio Armstrong is most commonly known for inventing frequency modulation, or FM radio, in 1933. FM improved the audio signal of radio by controlling the static caused by electrical equipment and the earths atmosphere. Prior to this, amplitude modulation (AM) radio had been extremely susceptible to such interference, which was what prompted Armstrong to investigate the problem in the first place. He conducted his experiments in the basement of Columbia Universitys Philosophy Hall. In 1933, Armstrong received U.S. patent 1,342,885 for a Method of Receiving High-Frequency Oscillations Radio for his FM technology. Again, Armstrong was not the only one experimenting with such technology. Scientists at the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) were also testing frequency modulation techniques to improve radio transmissions. In 1934, Armstrong presented his latest finding to a group of RCA officials; he later demonstrated the power of the technology using an antenna at the top of the Empire State Building. RCA, however, decided not to invest in the technology and instead focused on television broadcasting. Armstrong had not lost faith in his discovery, though. He continued to refine and promote FM radio technology, first by partnering with smaller companies such as General Electric and then by presenting the technology to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Unlike the RCA officials, those at the FCC presentation were impressed by Armstrongs demonstration; when he played them a jazz recording over FM radio, they were struck by the clarity of the sound. Improvements to FM technology over the 1930s made it more and more competitive with existing technologies. In 1940, the FCC decided to create a commercial FM service, which launched the following year with 40 channels. However, the outbreak of World War II limited the resources that could be put toward new radio infrastructure. Conflicts with RCA- which was still using AM transmissions- also prevented FM radio from taking off. It was not until after the war that the technology began to win popular support. In 1940, RCA, seeing that it was losing the technological race, tried to license Armstrongs patents, but he refused the offer. The company then developed its own FM system. Armstrong accused RCA of patent infringement and began litigation against the company, hoping to win damages for lost royalties. Death Armstrongs inventions made him a rich man, and he held 42 patents in his lifetime. However, he also found himself embroiled in protracted legal disputes with RCA, which viewed FM radio as a threat to its AM radio business. Much of Armstrongs time, as a consequence of the litigation, was devoted to legal matters rather than work on new inventions. Struggling with personal and financial problems, Armstrong committed suicide in 1954 by jumping to his death from his New York City apartment. He was buried in Merrimac, Massachusetts. Legacy In addition to frequency modulation, Armstrong is also known for developing a number of other key innovations. Every radio or television set today makes use of one or more of his inventions. Armstrong even invented the superheterodyne tuner that allowed radios to tune into different radio stations. During the 1960s, NASA used FM transmissions to communicate with its astronauts while they were in space. Today, FM technology is still used throughout the world for most forms of audio broadcasting. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Research Paper
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Research Paper Example During these prolonged incidents of best rest, elderly adults incur an increased risk for pressure ulcers. Other chronic conditions also present a similar risk of prolonged bed rest including osteoarthritis and cancer. This issue is being reviewed because pressure ulcers are preventable conditions, especially if the adequate nursing management remedies are in place. There are, however, factors or issues which impact on the management of pressure ulcers. This review now, therefore, seeks to evaluate the effective management of pressure ulcers among elderly patients with chronic diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2011), about 160,000 nursing home residents have had pressure ulcers, with Stage 2 pressure ulcer being the most common affliction. Residents who were more than 64 years of age were also likely to suffer from this issue and those who have had shorter hospital stays (one year or less) were also more likely to suffer from pressure ulcers, as c ompared to those who have stayed in nursing homes for longer durations (CDC, 2011). About one in five of these elderly patients with pressure ulcers have gone through weight loss and about 30% of these residents had to receive special wound care services for their health issue. In general, pressure ulcers are attributed to unrelieved pressure on the skin and often develop over bony protrusions. They are also serious medical issues and a common issue encountered among patients in nursing homes. About 2-28% of nursing home elderly patients are suffering from pressure ulcers and these ulcers are graded from stage 1 to stage 4 depending on the range of skin breakage seen on the ulcers. In about 1.5 million nursing home patients, 160,000 have been diagnosed with pressure ulcers at one point during their residence.

Phonetics and you can find every thing in the slide Essay - 1
Phonetics and you can find every thing in the slide - Essay Example The fact that there is evidence of both a voiced /à £/and voiceless /x/ velar fricative occurring in the same environments anticipates they are phonemes, and that a voiced counterpart to the labio-dental /f/ and alveolar fricative /s/ would also be found with further data. Evidence also suggests that although the voiced and voiceless pairs of velar fricative phonemes exist they are not found in all situations; for example, /x/ and /à £/ occur directly before the back mid vowel /o/ and the low vowel /a/ but not before the high /i/ and mid /e/front vowels and are thus in complementary distribution, wherein we find a voiceless alveolar fricative [ÃÆ'] or its voiced counterpart [Ãâ]. It is likely therefore, that the voiceless velar fricative /x/ becomes alveolar [ÃÆ'] before front vowels /i/ and /e/, while its voiced partner /à £/ also becomes alveolar [Ãâ] in the same situation, both of which therefore are allophones not phonemes. Within the dataset provided it could be predicted that [m] is an allophone of /n/ because [m] only occurs word initially and /n/ only occurs between vowels, but because of symmetry it is more likely they both occur as phonemes ââ¬â within this same argument there may be a velar nasal /Ã
â¹/. Another allophone evidenced in the data is the alveolar trill [r] which is only found inter-vocalically preceding two vowels - in other words a diphthong. It can thus be assumed that the flap or tap /Ã ¾/ becomes a trill [r] before a diphthong. The difficulty in terms of interpretation in this data set is whether the post alveolar affricate [tÃÆ'] is a phoneme or an allophone; for want of further evidence and because both the voiced and voiceless post alveolar fricatives occur in the same environment as the post alveolar affricate it is suggested that it is an allophone of /k/ in keeping with the symmetrical pattern of each velar phoneme having allophones preceding front

How is Lady Macbeth an important and memorable character in Macbeth? Essay
Lady Macbeth is an important and memorable character in Macbeth because she sets up the story by persuading Macbeth to kill Duncan. She also is memorable because she almost controls Macbeth at the start of the play which is unusual in the time of the play, as women usually didnââ¬â¢t have much say in relationships. Her role in the play also highlights Macbethââ¬â¢s loneliness without her. Lady Macbeth is the catalyst for her husbandââ¬â¢s downfall, as she pushes him to kill King Duncan. She tells him to, ââ¬Å"look like thââ¬â¢innocent flower but be the serpent under it.â⬠Talking about Duncan she also says, ââ¬Å"O never shall sun morrow see.â⬠She also hints he is not a man unless he kills Duncan (this is a recurring theme in the play), ââ¬Å"When you durst do it, then you were a man.â⬠This also shows she represents evil at the start of the play; she plays on his ambition and drives him to become a murderer. Lady Macbeth represents evil at the start of the play, this is highlighted when she says, ââ¬Å"Fill meâ⬠¦topfull of direst crueltyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell.â⬠She also would have scared the audience at the time because she and the witches were controlling a powerful man. She also comes across as wanting to be more masculine when she says, ââ¬Å"unsex me hereâ⬠and ââ¬Å"come to my womanââ¬â¢s breasts and take my milk for gall (bile).â⬠She also repeats the word ââ¬Å"comeâ⬠as if she is summoning evil spirits in her speech in act 1 scene 5 such as when she remarks, ââ¬Å"Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts.â⬠This speech makes the audience relate her to the witches because she is so evil. Later in the play, Lady Macbeth starts to echo her husbandââ¬â¢s reaction to the murder of Duncan. The main example of this is the symbol of hand washing, in act 2 scene 2 Macbeth says, ââ¬Å"Will all great Neptuneââ¬â¢s ocean wash this blood from my hands? No: this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine.â⬠Then in act 5 scene 1 Lady Macbeth remarks, ââ¬Å"Hereââ¬â¢s the smell of the blood still; all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.â⬠This scene also shows she realises what she pushed her husband to do has turned him into a murderer, ââ¬Å"The Thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now?â⬠Macbeth sees life as a pointless succession of days after Lady Macbeth commits suicide in act 5 scene 5. This is shown in his speech in that scene where he announces ââ¬Å"It (life) is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,â⬠Also, ââ¬Å"All our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Out, out brief candle.â⬠This shows that Macbeth sees no point or direction in his life without Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth realises that killing the King hasnââ¬â¢t brought them the joy they thought it would. This is summed up when Lady Macbeth says, ââ¬Å"Noughts had, alls spent,â⬠and when she says, ââ¬Å"Tis safer to be that which we destroy,â⬠in act 3 scene 2. This shows us her regret of pushing her husband to kill the King as they have gained nothing and envy to be him. These things drive her to her madness, as she realises what they have done has sealed their fate. This is an echo of what her husband says in this scene, ââ¬Å"full of scorpions is my mind,â⬠ââ¬Å"After lifeââ¬â¢s fitful fever, he (Duncan) sleeps well.â⬠Lady Macbeth appears to be the stronger person in the aftermath of the murder of Duncan and rubbishes Macbethââ¬â¢s guilt and regret, she remarks ââ¬Å"Infirm of purpose!â⬠ââ¬Å"My hands are of your colour, but I shame to wear a heart so white,â⬠ââ¬Å"A foolish thing to say a sorry sight,â⬠and ââ¬Å"These deeds must not be thought after these ways; so, it will make us mad.â⬠The last of these quotes is ironic as when she does think back on it later in the play she goes mad herself! This reiterates the fact that she wants to be in control of him, and this would have been scary for people of Shakespearian time for men were far superior to women, especially Kings. Lady Macbeth still believes Macbeth is weaker than her up to act 3 scene 4 where she says ââ¬Å"are you a man?â⬠when he sees the ghost of Banquo. She then questions his manhood again by saying, ââ¬Å"A womanââ¬â¢s story at a winterââ¬â¢s fire authorizââ¬â¢d by her grandma. Shame itself!â⬠and ââ¬Å"What, quite unmannââ¬â¢d in folly?â⬠This is a recurring theme of the play, but in the end they both end up dead cowards anyway. To conclude, Lady Macbeth is probably the most important character in the play as there would be no storyline if she hadnââ¬â¢t pushed Macbeth to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeths control over him is lost in act 4 and Macbeth then lives off the witchesââ¬â¢ apparitions, and becomes crazier as she does. Lady Macbeth and the witches play on his ambition and ego and eventually bring him down to his inevitable death at the end of the play.

The Forever War By Joe Haldeman - 2059 Words
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman is a classic work of military science fiction depicting a war between the human race and an unfamiliar alien entity known as the Taurans. The overall plot line follows a fairly typical path, but Haldemanââ¬â¢s real genius is realized through the interactions that take place between the protagonist, William Mandella, and the Earth he returns to between military operations. Developing beneath the ever-present war of the two species lies a much subtler conflict between generations of human thought and culture. Brought about by the way troops are transported in space, time dilation creates an interesting dichotomy between the early soldiers of the war and the rapid evolution of human society and culture remaining on Earth. The Forever War questions the stability of human nature by creating a scenario where its fluidity is exposed through an invariable link to time. The expression of human nature changes as cultural and personal identities adapt to new s ituations; viewing these changes through Mandella, we begin to see how different expressions of human nature can impact human nature itself. William Mandella is an intelligent physics student who was drafted into the military at the age of twenty-three. Beginning his journey in the year 1997, he goes on missions in space to advance the human agenda against the Tauran alien race. Essay about White Collar Crime vs. Street Crime - 665 Words
White Collar Crime vs. Street Crime One problem that plagues our society is crime. Crime is all around us in our everyday lives. Daily we hear of murders, robberies, and rapes. These are categorized as street crimes. For many people, such crimes are the only tragic crimes, the ones that are senseless and preventable. In Finsterbuschs book, Taking Sides, another variety of crime is exposed. This other form of crime is white collar crime. Both have victims, and the effects of both can be devastating to the individuals involved and to the community. The views of the two arguments proposed in the text do reach one common conclusion. Both street and white collar crime have severe consequences. In most instances, whiteâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This allows money to be justifiably funneled into the justice system. Police have pictures of criminals in their minds. These images are male people of color, ages 14-25. If you know who th e criminal is, you will make a point to find him. If you think all minorities are criminals, you will find reason to arrest them without hesitation. The effects of spending all funding on street crime can be seen and felt in other government programs. As weve discussed, the US education system is in a state of crisis. Schools do not have adequate funding to educate the kids. This is especially a problem in urban areas, where the alternative to school is life on the streets. Social services are also being eliminated, giving many no other option but to stay in poverty. Healthcare is a fantasy for many Americans, and yet our government can justify constructing massive prisons to hold all the deviant ones in society. White collar crime is 90 times more costly than street crime, and yet no one seems to want to address the problem. The Single Persona of Ophelia and Gertrude Free Essays
Zoe Alternate Ms. Herring AP English 5 November 2013 The Single Persona of Aphelia and Gertrude According to Shakespeare, Elisions did not require more than two women, let alone two unique women. On a larger scale, the society in which Shakespeare wrote agreed that most women were indistinguishable: women in general did not hold positions of prominence and did not demand recognition. We will write a custom essay sample on The Single Persona of Ophelia and Gertrude or any similar topic only for you Order Now In all of Shakespearean plays, a meager 126 female characters develop; of these, Aphelia and Gertrude play minor roles in Shakespearean Hamlet, having a mere 169 lines and 128 lines respectively. Being the only two females in the play, and with Shakespearean lack of knowledge that women could have varying personalities, Aphelia and Gertrude manage to possess many similar characteristics. In fact, they are so similar that one could argue, if convinced an Oedipus-complex exists, there is no need for two separate characters. Through their relationships and circumstances, interactions and dialogue, Shakespeare portrays Aphelia and Gertrude as parallel characters. Women during the Renaissance, and even women during any time period prior to the sass, were submissive and loyal. Aphelia and Gertrude are no exceptions to this stereotype; they passively listen and, without question, obey their superiors. As Alerter accuses Hamlet of false love, Aphelia agrees saying, ââ¬Å"l shall the effect of this good lesson keepâ⬠(1. 3. 44). Soon afterward, Polonium demands that Aphelia avoid Hamlet, and Aphelia is obedient: ââ¬Å"l shall obey, my lordâ⬠(1. 3. 136). Even in Alerterââ¬â¢ questioning of Hamletââ¬â¢s feelings, Aphelia admits that, as a woman, she should not have her own thoughts: ââ¬Å"l do not know, my lord, what I should thinkâ⬠(1. . 104). She repeats this degrading fact saying, ââ¬Å"l think nothing, my lordâ⬠(3. . 107) when Hamlet asks what she thought he meant in mentioning a virginââ¬â¢s legs. In 2. 2 lines 110-113, as Polonium attempts to raise his popularity among the court, he reads a personal letter from Hamlet to Aphelia, while Aphelia, surely embarrassed, sits back with no argument. The same acquiescence lies w ithin Queen Gertrude. In 2. 2 lines 19-26, Gertrude repeats, only more succinctly, what Claudia has already said, proving her lack of original thought. When Claudia orders her to leave the court, Gertrude says, ââ¬Å"l shall obey youâ⬠(3. 1. 38), maintaining her proper wifely status. To please her new Cubans, Gertrude endeavors to placate Hamletââ¬â¢s mournful mind and persuade him to ââ¬Å"let [his] eye look like a friend on Denmarkâ⬠(1. 2. 69), so that the Danish citizens may think all is well with the new political structure. Just as Aphelia holds a willingness to bow to Alerter and Polonium, Gertrude yields to Claudia every time except once right before her demise, which will be subsequently analyzed further. They are both ââ¬Å"made malleable by [their] sense of duty and by [their] nature as wellâ⬠(Magnums 1). Regardless of their wrongful obedience to their respective superiors, both Aphelia ND Gertrude truly love Hamlet. The only two women in the play have a very intimate relationship with the protagonist, one being his mother and the other his love interest. The love is made certain when Hamlet, truthfully or not, retracts his previous affection toward Aphelia; yet, she still replies, ââ¬Å"Indeed, my lord, you made me believe soâ⬠and ââ¬Å"l was the more deceivedâ⬠(3. . 118-122), revealing her broken heart. Gertrude love, whether her relationship with Hamlet includes an Oedipus-complex or not, proves sincere as she calls to Hamlet Just before her untimely death: ââ¬Å"O my dear Hamlet! (5. 2. 312). Neither female character can stand to have the connection between their familial and friendly bonds amputated. Aphelia can see that Hamletââ¬â¢s madness has generat ed a break between her fatherââ¬â¢s wishes and Hamletââ¬â¢s, and, distressed by the apparent severed bonds, pleads for help, ââ¬Å"Heavenly powers, restore him! â⬠(3. 1 . 142). Gertrude, in the midst of a barrage of verbal accusations, strives to conserve the filial bond; she refers to Hamlet as ââ¬Å"sweet Hamletâ⬠(3. 4. 98) and, in an effort to stop his attack, says, ââ¬Å"O Hamlet, thou hast cleft my heart in twainâ⬠(3. 4. 158). She needs his approval and therefore asks, ââ¬Å"What shall I do? â⬠(3. 4. 184). According to David Abnegationââ¬â¢s interpretation, the priority of Aphelia and Gertrude is familial harmony, motivating their actions throughout the play. Nonetheless, due to their blind and steadfast allegiance, Aphelia and Gertrude cannot help but act treacherously against Hamlet despite their deep love for him. Consequently, when Polonium devises a scheme to unearth the backstops of Hamletââ¬â¢s madness, he commands Aphelia, ââ¬Å"Walk you hereâ⬠¦ ââ¬Ë Read on this book/ That show of such an exercise may color/ Your lonelinessâ⬠(3. 1. 3-47). She immediately follows along so that Hamlet may suppose her alone when he happens upon her. Of course, Hamlet the keen prince he is, senses her betrayal. When Hamlet asks the whereabouts of Polonium, Aphelia answers with a lie, ââ¬Å"At home, my lordâ⬠(3. 1 . 132). Gertrude also refuses to take sides in the war between Claudia and Hamlet. She agrees to Poloniumââ¬â¢ ploy to spy on Hamlet by saying, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll warrant you. Fear me notâ⬠(3. 4. 7), allowing Polonium to take cover behind her curtains. Again, Hamlet discovers the betrayal, killing Polonium in the process. Shortly after, notwithstanding Hamletââ¬â¢s recent attack and her ostensible promise, Gertrude defends Claudiaââ¬â¢ throne cursing the ââ¬Å"false Danish dogsâ⬠(4. 5. 108) when the Messenger reports that the crowd wants Alerter as king. Furthermore, Claudia deduces that Gertrude will concur with Hamletââ¬â¢s need to be shipped to England and includes her in his plot to rid Denmark of Hamlet: ââ¬Å"Come, Gertrude, weââ¬â¢ll call up our friends/ And let them knowâ⬠¦ Hat we mean to doâ⬠(4. 1. 38-39). She does not contend. But Gertrude even now holds onto the love for her son and begs the crowd in the cemetery to be patient, ââ¬Å"For love of God, forbear himâ⬠(5. . 259). After Hamlet and Alerter brawl in Aphelionââ¬â¢s grave, the fickle Gertrude endeavors to convince the multitude that Hamletâ⠬â¢s fit, even though Hamlet clearly mourns Aphelionââ¬â¢s death, is in reality ââ¬Å"mere madnessâ⬠(5. 1. 271-275). Aphelia and Gertrude fluctuate between their alliance to Hamlet and to the court, and, in the throes, move with duplicity against Hamlet. These innumerable and sundry breaches of faith trigger Hamletââ¬â¢s abandonment of the goodness in humanity, especially womankind. The ones who should love him the most are the ones contributing to Hamletââ¬â¢s degrading mental state. Yet, being tender of heart and still submissive, both women ââ¬Å"are forced into uncharacteristic vices,â⬠unaware of their evil guides(Pennington). Hamletââ¬â¢s hatred goes so far as to dub frailty a woman in 1. 2. Aphelia and Gertrude are made into products of a ââ¬Å"stereotypic wanton sexualityââ¬â¢ (Wellness 1). Hamlet displays his disgust toward the sexuality of women in saying, ââ¬Å"The power of beauty willâ⬠¦ Transform/honesty from what it is to a bawdâ⬠(3. 1. 113-114). Hamlet denounces women as two-faced and promiscuous saying, ââ¬Å"God has given you one face and you make yourselves anotherâ⬠¦ And make our wantonness your ignoranceâ⬠(3. 1 . 143-146). His anger builds until he commences separate assaults on the two female characters. During his meeting with Aphelia, he spits several insults on her. Hamlet bids Aphelia, ââ¬Å"Get thee to a nunneryââ¬â¢ (3. 1 . 123). He additionally advises that if Aphelia must marry, she should ââ¬Å"marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters [she] makes of themâ⬠(3. 1 . 139-140). Later, in the course of his climactic talk with his mother, Hamlet accuses Gertrude of ââ¬Å"such a deed/As from the body of contraction plucks/The very soul, and sweet religion makes/ A rhapsody of wordsâ⬠(3. 4. 46-49). Both women are much too delicate to take on Hamletââ¬â¢s harsh words, and they crumble in the presence of his disgust. A final correlation between Hamletââ¬â¢s female characters is their closing exits. As the plays only females decay, it is evident that a factor to their degeneration is their lack of independence. Neither woman ever speaks without being prior spoken to with the exception of 4. 5. Aphelionââ¬â¢s reason finally collapses, and her songs spill out as if they were the liquid madness sloshing in her head. After Alerter Journeys to France and Aphelia agrees to avoid Hamlet in 1. , Aphelia remains without any confidant. She is ââ¬Å"an isolated figure in a patriarchal worldâ⬠(Magnums 1), even more so in the wake of her fatherââ¬â¢s slaughter. Gertrude can relate. Claudia, her only confidant, has been forbidden by Hamlet, and her own son abhors her. These women retain little strength to act of their own will. Even their own deaths occur accidentally, the fault of fated chain reactions. Aphelia, in an effort to commit suicide, falls into a body of water and drowns. Her only attempt to do something for herself is pulverize, Shakespearean way of keeping femininity helpless. As Gertrude recounts Aphelionââ¬â¢s passing, she mentions that in falling from the branch, Aphelia continues ââ¬Å"snatches of old lauds/As one incapable of her own distressâ⬠(4. . 176-177). Perhaps Aphelia knows how to swim, but indeed does decide for herself to let the water take her. Comparably, Gertrude is killed by a poison meant for the protagonist. Perchance she knows what Claudia has planned; some of Gertrude last words are defiant against Claudia, potentially proving her want of death to come as soon as possible and her own decision to make that happen. Clau dia weakly calls on Gertrude to replace Hamletââ¬â¢s poisoned drink; however, Gertrude replies, ââ¬Å"l will, my lord, I pray you, pardon meâ⬠(5. 2. 287). Their deaths can be argued as accidental or premeditated; nevertheless, Gertrude and Aphelia maintain irrefutably passive qualities throughout the play, which are conducive to their individual endings. The Queen of Denmark and a foolââ¬â¢s daughter, although endowed with separate names and kinsmen, possess stark and tangible similarities. Both temperaments are comprised of a complaint nature, unintentional treachery, a tender heart, and dependency. Aphelia and Gertrude can effortlessly be labeled parallel characters on count of Shakespearean alacrity to conform to societal views of women. The Implications of Using Strategic Marketing-Samples for Students
Question: Discuss about the Development of Customer value in the retail Business. Answer: Background Customers are a matter of omnipotence in every business organisation. No matter how big or small an organisation is, but it can only advance if it values its customers. Simultaneously it also has to be remembered that gaining trust of customers, creating a brand image and earning publicity all directly correlates to the marketing stature of the company. Every single customer has his or her own preferences, suggestions, views which need to be taken into consideration while making a marketing plan (Payne Frow 2014; Nguyen Mutum 2012). Thus, it can be said that marketing influence development of an organisation to a great extent. This marketing can be strategically improved to earn a good base of customers and for maintain their trust towards the organisation. Research Problem There are various renowned global retail organizations that have made successful business all-round the world and one of them is Amazon that has a large number of customers all round the world and the customers go blindfolded to purchase from Amazon when it comes for online shopping. They are available to a wide variety of customers and their online stores are accessible in almost every single country in the world (Lindgreen et al 2012; Chen 2012). One of the main attractions of their store is that they sell original products and make it easier for customers to buy with their own currency in online platform. They keep on developing their marketing stature by valuing their customers and taking their feedbacks from time to time (Dagger David 2012). Most of the customers are happy with the online shopping experience from amazon but they also hold some negative aspects in marketing which also withdraws some customers attention and this creates a bad image and drowns the reputation of th is retail store. Objectives There is lack of marketing importance on some areas of this retail business which needs to be improved strategically to regain the trust of unhappy customers like, Amazon sometimes sells a product priced too high than it should be. This often deters attention of the customers as the same original product is available from other retail store with a correct price tag which makes it easier for the customers to afford (Mustak et al 2013; Hibbert et al 2012). There are many things like this on Amazon which includes cosmetic products, grooming products and other accessories which often are tagged with excessively high price which denotes it has to be imported from another country but in reality it is not so, it is a major drawback for Amazon. In essence, the objective of this research is to establish the significance of strategic marketing in ensuring enhanced customer value and consequent satisfaction of the retail customers. Literature review Strategic marketing as defined by Vivek et al (2012) and Yi et al (2013), is an intellectual way to develop marketing platform of a business winning competitive advantage over other relevant organisation in order to create an uninterrupted brand image. It is a wonderful technique which is intended to consistently better value to the customers than its competitors. Strategic marketing establishes a clear direction along with a unified aim for all marketing efforts. Theodosiou et al (2012) pointed out that to have a strategic marketing program, a company needs to focus on five important aspects and these are Mission- it means the company must know what it is planning for and what does it want or what it is opting for. The moment it gets cleared, it can advance further. Situation analysis- after knowing and determining the mission, the marketing director has to manage all the internal and external aspects of marketing areas so that it doesnt create any hindrance during the process. The management as per Yi et al (2013) can be achieved by SWOT analysis which is an acronym for strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. Strengths and weakness are internal aspects of a company and opportunities and threats are external parts of an organisation. Objectives- after determining the positive and negative aspects of the marketing, the marketing director and managers can set the marketing objectives in a realistic manner which will increase sales, revenue and profit (Vivek et al 2012; Yi et al 2013). Strategy and evaluation- it includes identification of a group of customers and selecting a target market for increasing customer value. Marketing mix tools like price, promotion, product and distribution must be used and implemented while making a marketing planning. After the final plan is made, it has to evaluated and monitored over time before it gets finally implemented for a successful result (Vivek et al 2012; Yi et al 2013). Thus a well effective marketing planning can increase production and profitability of an organisation in a successful manner Study Design This section of the research involves tools and techniques that the researcher shall use to pursue the outcomes in an appropriate way.
